The aim of music is to provide students with the
opportunity to acquire knowledge, skills and experiences and to
emerge as musically sensitive and capable individuals with the
capacity and desire for music to play a significant and continually
developing role in their lives.

Preliminary course:

HSC course:
You will study at least THREE topics from the list below.
The topics must be: either
THREE topics which are different from those studied in the
preliminary course; or
TWO topics which are different from those studied in preliminary
course and ONE topic from the preliminary course which shows greater
depth of understanding explore new repertoire and include a
comparative study.

Technology:
The music course at Auburn will place a strong emphasis and the use
of Technology in a range of learning situation. The information
below explains why technology is important in the study of music.
Any instrument can be regarded as a piece of technology- a tool that
can be used by a musician to make music.
Technology influence and continue to change the way in which
musicians work.
You will be encouraged to use a full range of technologies in the
classroom and in the wider school context.

Music In Year 7 and 8:
It is compulsory for
students in year 7 and 8 to study music.
Music
In Year 9 and 10:
Students choose to study music in
year 9 and 10, they must sit for the School Certificate exams at the
end of year 10.
Music
In Year 11 and 12:
Students can choose to study
music in year 11 and 12, at the end of year 12, they must sit for
the Higher School Certificate exams.
