This course is for
students who wish to work in clerical and administrative
occupations. It is based on units of competency which have been
drawn up by the business services industry to describe the
competencies, skills and knowledge needed by clerical and
administrative workers.
Students
concentrate on developing a range of skills required to work
effectively and safely in a modern office environment. These
include oral and written communication skills, information
handling and record keeping processing financial documents and
operating office equipment including computers.
Business
Services (240hrs) consists of 12 units of competency in the AQF
Certificate II in Business (BSB20101) and two units from the AQF
Certificate III in Business (BSB30101).
Assessment:
This
course is based on units of competency. This means that students
must demonstrate various tasks to a standard required by Office
Assistants. They are then deemed as ‘competent’ or ‘not yet
competent’ in individual units of work. Completed competencies
are signed off by the Assessor in a Student Competency Log
book. No marks are given. Assessments are ongoing therefore
attendance is compulsory to demonstrate competencies.
The HSC exam is
optional. It is a written exam made up of multiple-choice items,
short answers and extended responses. The trial HSC exam mark is
submitted & is used by the Board of Studies in the case of
misadventure.
RPL is
recognised if evidence is shown. Please consult with Head
Teacher Social Science or VET Coordinator.
