All students now
have the opportunity to study Geography in Years 9 and 10. In these
years there is a focus on the study of Australian Geography and
students to study 4 major topics. These topics include:
Investigating
Australia's Identity. Students learn about Australia's location in
the Asia Pacific Region. Australia's geographical dimensions, the
characteristics that make Australia unique, human environments and
communities.
Changing Australian
Environments. Students learn about the effects of the physical
environment on people's lives, the effect of people on environments
and how and why environments in Australia are changing.
Issues in
Australian Environments. Students study issues and case studies
relating to the physical and human environments and how these issues
are being managed.
Australia in it's
Regional and Global Contest. Students study Australia in its
regional and global context and examine the role of individuals and
groups in planning for a better future.
Additionally, in
this course there is a strong emphasis on fieldwork, literacy,
geographical issues and civics and citizenship.
