This has been another
hectic term. Our year 7 students continue to work well in their
teams. Their teachers are currently busy nominating students for
assembly awards. Girls are recognised for teamwork, courtesy,
academic achievement, improvement, effort and homework. 7 Wik
students are co-ordinating the assembly this term. Parents are very
welcome to attend. Students will be notified week 10 and the
assembly will be held week 11.
Some of our year 7
classes were visited by teachers from mainland China this term. The
teachers are keen to establish links with our school and our
students. They were very impressed with the team structure we
provide for our year 7 students. In their schools students sit in
classes of about 70 students, work from 6:45am until 6 pm and go to
school six days a week. Learning in their classrooms is passive
whereas at Auburn Girls we focus on active learning and promote
interaction with a strong focus on quality teaching.
Congratulations to
Shahrin Masud in year 12. She recently received confirmation that
she had won a scholarship with KPMG. This is an international
accounting firm that has strong links with our school. Shahrin won
the scholarship on her own merit because she is an outstanding
scholar with a brilliant academic potential. Shahrin was also
nominated as student of the month recently. Shahrin is a published
poet, a great orator and debater and one of those rare people who
excels at everything she does, whether it be Mathematics, English,
Chemistry, Physics, Music or Business Studies. Shahrin is a
naturally gifted student but she has also worked very hard to
achieve consistently excellent results. Shahrin also has a very
strong social conscience and has been a tireless member of our
school SRC and as Vice Captain she has been part of a very active
student leadership team. We have been very fortunate to have had
Shahrin as a student at this school.
Year 12 Presentation
Day is on Thursday 28th September at Auburn RSL. Mr
Parker and Mr Sukkarieh are organising this event. All year 12 and
their families are welcome to attend. Auburn Girls’ community always
fill the hall so it is a good idea to be early to secure a good seat
and an uninterrupted view of the proceedings. May I take this
opportunity to say farewell to year 12. I have taught and known most
of them for six years. We have some wonderful students in this group
who are already great human beings.
I would like to give a
special farewell to our Learning Support girls who have done so
well and are all ready to go on to advanced study at TAFE and other
facilities. This group have been very ably supported by Ms Calleja
and her wonderful team.
So thank you Year 12
for choosing our school and for being such active participants. We
will miss you and wish you well in your future careers.
Following the School Certificate examinations next
term, year 10 will be taking part in a very special program until
the end of the year. Activities will include creating a yearbook, a
Barista course, CV writing, Mind Matters, Peer Support, Crossroads,
a First Aid course, a Work Ready initiative, leadership seminars and
many other opportunities. This program was very successful last year
and we are aiming for an even better program for 2006.
