Term three is the time of year when we all feel very strongly the pressure of the HSC. For staff it is both a very satisfying time and a sad time. Year 12 students have been looking forward to the end of their HSC year. Now the end is close, I know they are feeling a range of emotions – excitement, worry and sadness to name a few.

Personally, I’ve been impressed with the way most of year 12 have approached this year – I have seen many examples of them taking advice, seeking extra help and continually trying to improve their standard of work. My thanks go to our entire teaching staff, not just the year 12 teachers. Over the last six years our teachers have really provided year 12 with excellent preparation for their HSC. On behalf of the whole school community, I want to wish year 12 all the very best of the HSC and beyond. The school is looking forward to hearing of their successes in the months and years ahead.

Term 3 has also been very important for year 10 and year 11. Year 11 students have achieved their Preliminary Certificate and in Term 4, we will welcome them back as our new year 12. The next 12 months will go very quickly. It is essential that these girls use every day and every lesson to achieve the best possible HSC result.

Year 10 will soon complete their Trial School Certificate and shortly after sit for the School Certificate exams. In 2004 we changed the term four program for year 10 to include a more thorough preparation for the senior school. This very successful program ran again in 2005 and has been further improved for the 2006 year 10 group. I will shortly meet with year 10 parents to explain the details of the program to them. I would be happy to speak to any parents who were not able to attend the meeting organised to explain what year 10 will be doing in term 4.

I continue to be very impressed with the leadership taken on by our SRC (student leadership group). They have conducted surveys to find out more about what students need, been active fundraisers for charity and have taken part in other leadership activities. We are about to show students the new school uniform. The SRC played a huge role in the re-designing of the uniform and our school logo. The caretaker’s cottage in the school grounds is also almost ready for use. This was another project started by the SRC. Recently the SRC spoke to both our local members of parliament (Barbara Perry, our state member and Laurie Ferguson, our Federal member) about other ways the SRC can improve school facilities. The Power Point presentation prepared by the SRC to highlight their work to our local members was very professional and really showed the high level skills of our girls.

Each day, as I talk to staff, students and parents I am reminded what a great school this is. I am very proud of our girls and very thankful for the support the school receives from parents. I want to remind parents that they are always welcome at the school to discuss and questions or concerns they might have. I look forward to talking to our parents at every opportunity.
